Gunnison has been the “gateway” for many of my outdoor adventures. Growing up, my family would drive all night to Colorado from Texas. More often than not, I’d wake up in the predawn hours around Cotechopa Pass on the Continental Divide between the Gunnison & Rio Grande National Forests. I’d climb into the front seat with my Dad, and we’d count mule deer and elk from Cotechopa Pass down into Gunnison, the beautiful Colorado town surrounded by phenomenal hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities. It also holds a special allure, as I took my first solo backcountry hunt archery elk hunt southwest of Gunnison.”
